First Post

The University of Puget Sound has an unusually early Spring Break, so my friend, Justin, and I are spending a few days staying at a relative of mine's home in Portland. It's a few blocks walk from the "hip" areas, so, at the moment, I'm currently posted up in Powell's Books on Hawthorne, which, according to most Portlanders, is apparently the place to be. Justin is out on the town visiting friends at Portland State, while I'm using this time to organize my thoughts, ironically extending them onto a new sort of template (This blog) via the internet. This is something that I've been meaning to do for a while, and my Digital Humanities class assignment (Creating an online persona) is the perfect excuse. I've got quite a bit to say, so hopefully, keeping this blog updated will be a nice incentive.

A little about myself:

I'm 19 years old, and grew up in Hopkins, MN, a town a few miles away from Minneapolis. I lived with my three brothers, and my Mom and Dad, until I moved to Tacoma, Washington last fall to attend my freshman year of college at the University of Puget Sound. I've always been passionate about something or other, from English history, to rock music, to astrology, and what not. I like to read, when I have time, and some of my favorite authors are John Irving, John Steinbeck, Chuck Klosterman, Kurt Vonnegut, Jack Kerouac, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. I like to play music as well, especially the mandolin and guitar, and I enjoy listening to rock, jazz, hip-hop, electronic, classical-really anything good ( :

School really isn't my cup of tea at this point in my life, and I'm searching for a sort of space to really learn about myself and how I work. I'd rather be immersed in my own life, than take classes on things that I don't necessarily think are that important for me, so I'm right now, I'm in the process of planning my summer to an extent and what I'm going to be doing in the fall. I've got a job at a local grocery store in Minnesota, Lunds, so I'll be going back there mid-May. I'm also going to be attending Trillium music festival in northern Wisconsin, and Bella Fiore (I'm going to be biking from Hopkins, if anyone would like to join me) in southern Minnesota later on in May.

After working for another month or so, I'd like to travel and stay with family in England for a couple months, and then WWOOF ( http://wwoof.org/) in France, but I'll figure more about that later on.

I'm always interested in chatting, discussing pretty much anything, especially astrology.

Cheers, Edward
